Friday, January 7, 2022 From Rev. Diane, The sun is moving higher in the sky and the mist is slowly rising off the water as it tries in earnest to freeze over. Minus 18. A new day has begun. "Thank you for the music" says Faye McKnight during our online Mug up yesterday. Our Mug up gang sent their words of love and admiration with me when I went to visit Rob Attfield at Hospice yesterday. I am sad to tell you Rob died yesterday afternoon. "It was a privilege to have known him... a giant of a man... the whole community will miss him...oh, his sense of humour", "Rob would tell everyone they were a saint when he was one himself" says Alastair Dunlop. "A music man and a prankster. God's gain our loss" says Judy Hall. He played his music right up until the end - his final service being appropriately the Sunday of Love December 19th, 2021. Yesterday, he wanted me to let you all know it was a privilege to be part of the Trinity family and to be able to play his music for us. What an inspiration he was to all of us... facing adversity with such grit and grace! His beloved partner of 40 years Lynn also showed us infinite strength and infinite patience, always caring for Rob and his every need with such tenderness and compassion especially during the past 15 months. Please no flowers upon request. There will be details later about charities you may make a donation to in loving memory of Rob. Because we are not able to gather right now to celebrate Rob's life, below you will find a brief farewell to honour and celebrate this "giant of a man" and a gem of a human being. As Julie Brushey sums up Rob's passing so elegantly and beautifully" with Rob's passing a big piece of the heart in the heart of Huntsville has gone too."
