It's a damp Monday afternoon.... but we do so need these rain showers. Our gardens will be doing a happy dance! One of the things that give women and some men trouble is their body image. Why do we suffer so much with this? Every Monday we vow we are going to do better with how we treat our bodies. This being Mental Health Month I wanted to draw some attention to the fact that our bodies are NOT who we are. Our faith tradition and other faith traditions tell us our bodies are the temples of our souls. In other words, the body is a house in which we live. Writer Eknath Easwaran says if we say we are so many inches tall and weigh so many pounds we are not describing ourselves... we are describing our address- not ourselves. Perhaps we need to step back and look at what's going on inside our temples/homes rather than our addresses. Focus on doing the " inner work" of developing our hearts and our souls and in turn reaching out into the world to make a difference. When I look at people, I strive to look into their eyes- not their addresses. Aren't the eyes the window to our souls? We are all beautifully and wonderfully made, in God's image, with all our glorious imperfections and flaws. Strive to be healthy in mind, body and soul. Seek to be a whole and authentic person; living an optimal and abundant life. Perhaps, then without knowing, you just may end up with a new address! I would love to hear your thoughts... don't be shy. Add your comments below. Let's keep the conversations going.
Companions on this journey we call life, Rev. Diane
